Picture of 1961 Ford Galaxie SunlinerClean, simple and refreshing trick-free, Ford greats - like 1961 Ford Galaxie Sunliner - was among the most enjoyable cars in 1961. It took a long time before Ford Galaxie fully appreciated, but - even sun-loving convertible.



The 1961 Ford Galaxie Sunliner didn't have '50s-style flash

Ford Division, greeted the 60 cars in three separate lines: the next new standard Ford, the popular personal luxury four-seat Ford Thunderbird, and very popular new compact Ford Falcon. While Falcon was little changed for the '61 T-Bird was all new, with slim "Rocket Ship" profile. Big Ford developed another side of the adoption of clean, simple design to transfer the bodies were slightly shorter and lighter than in 1960. There was also a pleasant absence of skittish 50s-style tricks.

Still part of the top-line series of the Galaxy, Ford Galaxie Sunliner '61 at $ 2849. As in previous years, the standard V-8, now 175 horses 292nd Options included 352 veterans with 220 hp (pictured here), plus the new 390 big block with 300 hp. Ford sold a pair of 390s with triple two barrel 375 or 401 hp at huge leadfoots with large portfolios and racing license. Dealer installed four-on-the-floor manual transmission is new, too, but most of the big Fords were two or three speed Fordomatic Cruise Speed-O-Matic self-sorting.

Although total sales at Ford fell slightly for '61, Ford Galaxie Sunliner almost repeated his performance in 1960, attracting 44,614 orders.
