Ford Fairlane In mid-1960, manufacturers play a game called "snap tiger tail." Hot Pontiac Tempest GTO was the car to beat, and shot everyone in the building and medium-sized cars with tiger stripes and hairy engines. Ford entered the arena in 1966 and 1967 with Ford Fairlane GT and Ford Fairlane GTA. Were hot car - but 1966 fairlane not as hot as they looked. Although the 1962 Ford Fairlane is 16.5 inches longer and nearly 500 pounds heavier than the Falcon compact companion, was even smaller 11.7 inches and 800 pounds lighter than "standard format" Ford - which just shows how much Ford has moved from its very successful 1954-1956 package.
Because the big Ford 223-cubic-inch six would not fit in the engine in the new Fairlane's engine bay, Falcon 170-cid six became the standard engine. The old 292 V-8 would not fit, either way, Ford has developed a brand new 221-cubic-inch V-8 and bored-out 260-cid version specifically for Ford Fairlane as an optional engine choice. It was the famous small-block Ford V-8 with the new thin-wall casting technology, making it the lightest V-8 today.

Cars and hard-tops were added in 1963, but the style remained virtually unchanged until 1964, so the more serious (and not entirely successfully), facelift took place in 1965.

Middleweight Ford got a lot more exciting in 1966, when it was completely redesigned for the 1965-1966 Ford big-style mirror in junior size. Convertible three models have been added, including a spectacular new Ford Fairlane GT, which was more popular companion 1966 fairlane hardtop model.
